What to Wear For a Labor Day Wedding

Somehow Labor Day is already right around the corner. For some that means spending the weekend at the lake or barbecuing with friends and family in the backyard (I’ll cover your weekend wear next week). For the rest of us, it means it’s time to suit up for another wedding. You might not be the best man, but you can definitely be the best dressed man. Before throwing these threads on, it’s important to remember that the right fit is key. Invest in a trusted tailor and you’re set. My go-to tailor in Chicago are the guys at Peter Field.

Sayin’ Goodbye to Summer, and Hello to Fall, Fashion and Football

With the first weekend of pre-season football in the books, it’s undeniable that fall is truly just around the corner. While it can be sad to say goodbye to summer, it’s always fun to change out the old threads and welcome the crisp autumn air with a new wardrobe. Throughout the next few months I’ll be posting my favorite looks to transition to fall in style.

First up, these staples.

Your Guide to Looking and Staying Cool at Lollapalooza | Day 3

You’ve made it this far. Day 1 & 2 are in the books and you’ve rocked your gear hard up to this point. Take a laid back approach to day 3. Throw on the Randall Mineral Print tee for your Sunday’s (or in this case Saturdays) best.

Or rep the city that brought you Lolla, by sporting one of Chicago’s finest local menswear brands, Stock Mfg. Co. Choose from a variety of shirts from their Artist Series. The Artist Series line is made from some of the most talented local artists and their interpretation of the Windy City and its history. My favorite is the Stock the Levee Tee.

I’ve long wondered how the true musicians and music lovers wear jeans to the festival in August. Shorts just seem like such a more comfortable approach. However, if temperatures allow, and they sometimes do, go ahead and throw on a pair of BLK DNM Jean 5s. Hell, you might even be able to weasel your way backstage by convincing the bouncer you’re in the band.

Wearing flip flops at Lolla can be a dangerous game. The mass crowds of people clumped together generally don’t bode well for wearing sandals. Throw on some Birkenstocks instead. You’ll get the same airflow without having to worry about a broken sandal. Birks are making a strong comeback and make for a nice addition to the day 3 wardrobe.

Top it all off with an American Flag bandana. U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!

Shows I’m looking forward to seeing on Sunday: Gemini Club | RAC | Gesaffelstein | Chormeo | The Avett Brothers | Flume

Who are you looking forward to seeing? Let me know if in the comments box.

In case you’ve missed it, check out my picks for what to wear for Day 1 & 2

Your Guide to Looking and Staying Cool at Lollapalooza | Day 2

One of the main attractions I enjoy watching most at Lollapalooza are the Hoopsters. Wearing a throwback jersey is bound to get you a few high fives and jealous stares. My personal favorite to rock at Lolla is a throwback Sebastian Telfair Lincoln High Railsplitters jersey. Although Bassy himself was quite a bust, this jersey is a fan favorite for anyone who has seen Through the Wire. But don’t take my word for it, see for yourself. Other valid options include jerseys of Jesus Shuttlesworth, Willie Beamen, or Adam Banks.

If being a hoopster is too hipster for you, play it safe with a tank top from Todd Snyder x Champion Sports. And lucky for you, they’re on sale over at Todd Snyder. #SunsOutGunsOut.

imageThe roamer shorts from Muttonhead Collective are perfect for…well, roaming around the festival grounds. Bring out your inner free spirit, in these made-from-recycled-hemp shorts. The elastic waist won’t hold you back from boozing and eating your way through Chow Town. And guess what? Yep, they’re on sale too at Muttonhead Collective.

A good pair of shades are for more than protecting you from the sun. These Beck x Warby Parker frames are perfect for hiding your drunk eyes from the crowd and have all the 100% UV protection you need to get through day 2. Plus, when you buy a pair, they give a pair - a win-win for all. #itsforthekids Get and give the look here at Warby Parker.

Chucks or Vans. Because you’re at a music festival after all.image

Your Guide to Looking and Staying Cool at Lollapalooza | Day 1

Lollapalooza has become just as much about the threads you’re wearing as it is about the music. It’s about seeing the bands you came to see and you being seen (in style). Today and tomorrow, I’ll be posting my picks for what to wear to all 3 days of Lolla.

image

First things first (I’m the realest), Lolla can get muddy. If there is ANY chance of rain in the forecast, it’ll probably rain (because it’s Chicago, and that’s what it does). If you have concerns about getting a little dirt on your shoes, these recommendations probably won’t apply, as you’ll want to just wear your oldest pair of vans or chucks.

However, if you’re looking to walk the walk, slip into these SeaVeesxToddSnyder Army Hi kicks. A nice alternative to Chucks or Vans, the color of these shoes will help keep them from looking like they’ve been through a mudbath once the festival is over. They’re lightweight and breathable, and will get you from one end of the park to the next in style. Check out the inspiration behind this shoe here.

The Chambray Summer Shorts from the gents at Taylor Stitch will keep you cool, calm and collected. They’re slightly tapered in the lower leg but allow for plenty of breathing room, which is key. Make sure to line your pockets with plastic zip locks to store any valuables in the event of inclement weather (i.e., Lollapalooza 2012). Get the look here at Taylor Stitch.

The short sleeved button up is the perfect way to go from casual Friday in the office to late night dance party at Perry’s stage. Above, I’ve picked out a few Gitman Vintage and Gap short sleeved button ups to rock on Day 1.

Gitman shirts have always been known for fitting perfectly, and recently they’ve been putting out some pretty radical designs that are perfect for debuting at Lolla. The front breast pocket is key for storing your shades once the sun goes down.

For those whose wallets are empty from dishing out the money for a 3-day pass, the Gap has some funky shirts at a price we can all get down with. Gap is also sponsoring Gap x Lolla this year, so make sure to pop into the Gap off Michigan Ave. to checkout some of the official gear.

*Gap- Lived-in wash tropical print shirt (pictured last) seriously sold out as i was writing this post. But check your local Gap to see if they have any in stock, because it’s pretty much amazing.

Shows I’m looking forward to seeing on Friday: Hozier | Blood Orange | CHVRCHES | Lorde/ The Kooks | Zedd/Phantogram

Check back tomorrow for what to wear Day 2.
